Ex-Monsanto CEO Defends Roundup, Concedes Study Limits
By Dorothy Atkins (March 25, 2019, 7:38 PM EDT) -- In videotaped testimony played at a Roundup cancer trial on Monday, Monsanto's former CEO conceded the company never conducted epidemiological cancer studies on the weedkiller, while saying the agri-giant based its practices on "sound science."
During his direct examination, Hugh Grant, who served as Monsanto's CEO for 15 years before Bayer AG acquired the company in June for $63 billion, said repeatedly that Monsanto is a "science-based company" and regulators around the world have "vouched" for the safety of its Roundup products for decades.
However, Grant also said he has "no idea" how many studies have been done on the safety...
