BMI Settles Copyright Suit With Texas Nightspot

Law360, New York (August 27, 2009, 6:17 PM EDT) -- Broadcast Music Inc. has settled a nearly two-year lawsuit with an Austin, Texas, megabar that allegedly infringed copyrights on BMI songs.

Speakeasy — a bar that bills itself as Austin's original “swanky joint” — reached a settlement with music licensing company BMI after informal negotiations, the companies said in a joint stipulation. Judge Lee Yeakel of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas approved the settlement and entered a judgment in the case Tuesday.
