Wis. Considers Barring Credit Checks In Hiring

Law360, New York (August 31, 2009, 6:16 PM EDT) -- Wisconsin's Legislature has joined a group of states in introducing bills to ban credit history as a discriminatory practice in hiring processes, in the face of unemployment figures continuing to creep upward even as government officials and economists predict an end to the credit crisis and recession.

The bill introduced in the Wisconsin State Assembly on Aug. 12 by Rep. Kim Hixson, a Democrat, would add credit history to the list of unfair discriminatory employment practices currently prohibited by Wisconsin state law.
