Barnes & Noble Escapes Ex-CEO's Defamation Claims

Law360 (September 4, 2020, 8:35 PM EDT) -- A New York federal judge has trimmed the lawsuit a former Barnes & Noble Inc. CEO filed against the retailer, ruling there wasn't enough to support the executive's allegations that a press release announcing his termination defamed him by suggesting his ouster was over sexual harassment allegations.

Although U.S. District Judge Mary Kay Vyskocil on Thursday granted summary judgment to Barnes & Noble on the defamation claim, she did allow former CEO Demos Parneros' claim for breach of the covenant of good faith and fair dealing to survive.
