Cybercriminals evolved their tactics over the past year, increasingly taking the extra step of stealing sensitive data before locking victims out of networks and demanding ransoms, incident responders say. In some cases, ransomware gangs made matters even more difficult for victims by posting stolen data on public-facing websites — or threatening to auction it off to the highest bidder.
