Ofcom Orders BSkyB To Lower Prices For Rivals

Law360, New York (March 31, 2010, 4:10 PM EDT) -- The U.K. Office of Communications is forcing British Sky Broadcasting Group PLC to allow rival networks to air its premium sports broadcasting at a lower price, a ruling BSkyB immediately said it would appeal.

Ofcom said Wednesday that BSkyB is exploiting its market power by restricting the distribution of its premium channels to rival pay television providers. The company's conduct prevents fair and effective competition, reduces consumer choice and holds back innovation and investment, the regulator said.
