AT&T Online Access Tax Cases Merged Into MDL

Law360, New York (April 9, 2010, 3:08 PM EDT) -- Overruling the objection of certain plaintiffs, the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation has agreed to consolidate a slew of cases accusing AT&T Mobility LLC of violating federal tax law by levying taxes on Internet access through its wireless contracts.

In a ruling Wednesday, JPML Chairman John G. Heyburn II granted AT&T's bid to consolidate 28 such cases in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois after finding that the benefits of centralization were “significant.”
