Ad Sale Restrictions On UK's ITV Will Stay

Law360, New York (May 12, 2010, 8:03 PM EDT) -- The U.K. Competition Commission has decided to leave in place restrictions on how market-leading television broadcaster ITV sells advertisements, a legacy of a 2003 merger.

ITV remains too powerful to justify relaxing the Contract Rights Renewal regime, the CC said Wednesday.

CRR was put in place in 2003, shortly after a $4 billion merger between independent television companies Granada PLC and Carlton Communications PLC, and allows advertisers to maintain their advertising buys at premerger rates.
