Skilled Healthcare Turns $671M Verdict Into $50M Deal

Law360, New York (September 8, 2010, 11:43 AM EDT) -- Skilled Healthcare Group has reached a $50 million settlement in a class action in which a California jury slapped it with a $671 million verdict for failing to provide adequate care at nursing homes around the state.

The health services company has agreed to a permanent injunction requiring it to abide by state and federal laws that set mandatory minimum staffing requirements in its 22 California nursing homes, according to the settlement, announced Tuesday in the Superior Court of California, Humboldt County.
