Toyota Wins 1st Trial Over Acceleration Problems

Law360, New York (April 1, 2011, 6:42 PM EDT) -- In the first case over unintended acceleration in Toyota vehicles to go to trial, a jury in New York decided Friday that Toyota Motor Sales USA Inc. was not responsible for an accident allegedly caused by the defect.

But some attorneys said the verdict, reached after 45 minutes of deliberations in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York, would have little impact on other pending acceleration cases. Most have been coordinated in a multidistrict litigation in federal court in California.
