Judge Strikes Down Calif. Cleanup Law

Law360, New York (April 27, 2011, 10:38 PM EDT) -- A California federal judge on Tuesday overturned a state law requiring Boeing Co. to beef up its remediation of a rocket and reactor test site contaminated by its work for the U.S. government.

California's SB 990 — which would have required Boeing to make the 2,850-acre Santa Susana Field Laboratory safe enough that a subsistence farmer could live and grow food there — is preempted by federal laws on nuclear waste, according to U.S. District Judge John Walter.
