Viacom Wrangles With Cablevision Over IPad Streaming

Law360, San Diego (June 23, 2011, 5:31 PM EDT) -- Viacom International Inc. on Thursday launched a suit in New York accusing Cablevision Systems Corp. of violating contract provisions, infringing copyrights and trademarks, and competing unfairly by streaming Viacom content on wireless devices like Apple Inc.’s iPad without authorization.

The suit claims Cablevision’s April 2 launch of a computer application that allows it to stream TV programming through a cable modem to iPad tablets violates Viacom’s contractual rights that restrict Cablevision’s distribution of the media giant’s programming to cable television systems.
