HFPA, Producer Spar Over Golden Globes Airing Rights

Law360, Los Angeles (August 2, 2011, 8:47 PM EDT) -- The Hollywood Foreign Press Association and the producer of the Golden Globe Awards on Tuesday each pressed a California federal judge to grant motions for summary judgment in a breach of contract and trademark infringement suit over the show's future broadcasting rights.

Attorneys for Dick Clark Productions Inc. told U.S. District Judge Valerie Baker Fairbank that an extension clause in a 1993 deal struck with the former president of the HFPA, Mirjana Van Blaricom, grants the company perpetuity rights to Golden Globes broadcasts, barring the association's...
