Calif. Pensioners' Names, Benefits Must Be Public: Court

Law360, New York (August 30, 2011, 5:00 PM EDT) -- A California appeals court ruled Friday that the Sonoma County Employees' Retirement Association must disclose the names of public pension beneficiaries and the amount of the benefits they receive monthly, as requested by Santa Rosa, Calif., newspaper The Press Democrat.

The published decision, which also determined that SCERA did not need to disclose recipients' age of retirement, follows similar appeals court decisions in California's Contra Costa and Sacramento counties in the past several years.
