Judge Dismisses Key Claim In Geico's Trademark Suit Vs. Google

Law360, New York (December 16, 2004, 12:00 AM EST) -- A federal judge in Virginia has dismissed a key claim in auto insurer Geico’s trademark infringement lawsuit against Google.

U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema granted a motion by Google, ruling Monday that Geico had not shown that Google’s controversial advertising policy caused confusion. The judge said she planned to halt the trial to write a ruling on the decision.

"There is no evidence that that activity alone causes confusion," Brinkema said.

The judge has yet to rule on another claim by Geico that Google is liable...
