Facebook Faces Privacy Action Over Tracking After Logout

Law360, New York (September 30, 2011, 9:58 PM EDT) -- Facebook Inc. was hit with a putative class action Friday in California federal court by users who claim the social networking site secretly tracked their online activities after they logged out of the service.

Facebook routinely installs files known as “cookies” — small pieces of data sent between Internet browsers and websites — on its users' computers, and has assured users that cookies that identify a person's particular account are deleted after a logout, according to the complaint.
