Fund Manager Charged For Using Galleon Tips

Law360, New York (February 10, 2012, 12:08 PM EST) -- New York federal prosecutors on Friday charged the head of a California hedge fund with securities fraud for allegedly using Galleon Group LLC-linked tips to make nearly $1 million on insider trades in Google Inc. and other technology companies.

Doug Whitman, the 54-year-old head of Menlo Park, Calif.-based Whitman Capital LLC, turned himself in early Friday morning, FBI spokesman Peter Donald said. He later pled not guilty to two counts of securities fraud and two conspiracy counts.
