2nd Circ. Revives Viacom's $1B YouTube Copyright Suit

Law360, New York (April 5, 2012, 2:05 PM EDT) -- The Second Circuit gave new life to Viacom International Inc.'s $1 billion copyright lawsuit against Google Inc.'s YouTube on Thursday, vacating a lower court's ruling that favored Google and remanding the case for consideration of whether the company had knowledge of infringement.

The lower court granted summary judgment to Google in June 2010, holding that YouTube was protected from copyright infringement liability under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act's safe harbor provision.
