Skype, Sony Pulled Into Data Encryption Patent Row

Law360, New York (April 10, 2012, 1:24 PM EDT) -- Skype Inc. and Sony Computer Entertainment America LLC on Monday became the latest technology companies accused by TQP Development LLC of co-opting the licensing group's data encryption patent, as TQP opened additional infringement proceedings in Texas federal court.

In separate suits, TQP accused Skype and Sony of incorporating into their websites data transmission technology that draws on an encryption method protected by a TQP patent.

The patent-in-suit is U.S. Patent Number 5,412,730, titled “Encrypted data transmission system employing means for randomly altering the encryption keys,” and...
