Bloomberg Sues Council To Challenge City's Living Wage Laws

Law360, New York (July 27, 2012, 4:26 PM EDT) -- New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg on Friday sued the City Council, challenging the validity of two laws requiring companies and real estate developers who receive financial assistance from the city, as well as their subcontractors, to pay their employees "living wages" that exceed the state minimum.

After the New York City Council passed the prevailing wage law and the living wage law over the mayor's vetoes, Bloomberg argued that the laws would harm the city's efforts to attract businesses necessary to support the city government....
