Feds Probe Top NY Construction Cos. In Billing Fraud Sting

By Kaitlin Ugolik (July 31, 2012, 3:35 PM EDT) -- Federal prosecutors are probing the financial practices of at least four of New York's top construction companies as part of a sweeping investigation into possible billing fraud on public projects that led Bovis Lend lease International Ltd. to pay $56 million in penalties in April, sources close to the matter said Tuesday.

The subpoenas were issued in December to Tishman Construction Corp., Skanska USA Building Inc., Turner Construction Co. and Plaza Construction, among others, seeking information related to the companies' billing practices for billions of dollars in contracts for public projects, including the World Trade Center and the Seventh Avenue subway...
