ESPN To Pay $5.6B For Baseball Broadcast Rights

Law360, New York (August 28, 2012, 8:22 PM EDT) -- Major League Baseball and Walt Disney Co. unit ESPN said Tuesday that they'd reached a new eight-year broadcasting agreement, a deal reportedly worth about $5.6 billion.

The contract, running from 2014 to 2021, expands ESPN's baseball coverage on television, radio and the Internet in exchange for a 100 percent increase in fees over their current rights deal. The Associated Press reported that the deal will increase the annual fee from $350 million to $700 million per year.
