3 Publishers' E-Book Price-Fixing Deals Win Court Approval

Law360, New York (September 6, 2012, 5:10 PM EDT) -- A New York federal judge on Thursday approved the U.S. Department of Justice’s e-book price-fixing settlements with Hachette Book Group Inc., HarperCollins Publishers LLC and Simon & Schuster Inc., saying the government had shown the deals are in the public interest.

U.S. District Judge Denise Cote allowed the settlements, which are designed to roll back the effects of the alleged plot by five publishers and Apple Inc. to fix e-book prices, despite an onslaught of criticism from players in the book industry and the other defendants...
