Judge Says Sony Data Breach Plaintiffs Can Prove Harm

Law360, New York (October 12, 2012, 2:02 PM EDT) -- A California federal judge on Thursday shot down Sony's Corp.'s argument that online video game customers affected by a massive data breach had failed to prove harm, but still granted most of Sony's motion to dismiss class claims in the multidistrict litigation.

U.S. District Judge Anthony J. Battaglia found that the named plaintiffs and a potential class of as many as 31 million users of the company's PlayStation Network and Qriocity services had standing to sue Sony for allegedly failing to protect their private information from hackers....
