El Paso Lands $20M Deal For Baseball Team Amid Stadium Fray

Law360, New York (October 12, 2012, 7:48 PM EDT) -- Amid a recently launched federal court battle to block the construction of a minor league baseball stadium in downtown El Paso, Texas, the new owners of the San Diego Padres’ Triple-A affiliate on Friday announced an estimated $20 million deal to move the team to town.

MountainStar Sports Group said it had officially acquired the Pacific Coast League’s Tucson Padres, formerly of Arizona, who should play their first game in a controversial $50 million stadium when the 2014 season begins.
