$20B SoftBank-Sprint Deal Boosts Competition, Group Says

Law360, New York (February 12, 2013, 7:13 PM EST) -- The nation's biggest telecom trade group on Tuesday came out in support of SoftBank Corp.'s $20 billion deal for majority control of Sprint Nextel Corp., a year after opposing a similar global tie-up between AT&T Inc. and T-Mobile USA Inc. on antitrust grounds.

The Computer & Communications Industry Association, whose members include T-Mobile, Sprint and tech giants like Apple Inc. and Google Inc., told the Federal Communications Commission that the deal will promote competition by helping Sprint compete against Verizon Wireless and AT&T.
