Jury Awards Dish $4.9M In ESPN Licensing Row

Law360, New York (February 28, 2013, 5:41 PM EST) -- A federal jury on Thursday found that sports broadcasting company ESPN Inc. violated a contract with Dish Network LLC by offering the television provider worse rates on its programming than it offered other providers, and awarded Dish $4.86 million.

The jury found for Dish on one claim of four it brought in its lawsuit — a narrow victory, especially given that Dish had sought more than $152 million.

The verdict, reached after just under a full day of deliberation, ends a trial that began Feb. 11....
