Travel Cos. Could Owe $55M In Hotel Taxes Class Action

Law360, Houston (March 13, 2013, 5:41 PM EDT) -- The city of San Antonio on Tuesday asked a Texas federal judge to enter a $55 million judgment in a class action against online travel companies Expedia Inc., Hotels.com LP, Hotwire Inc. and others found to have underpaid hotel occupancy taxes to 173 cities.

A proposed final judgment filed by San Antonio incorporating a jury’s 2009 verdict against the booking companies requires Expedia, Hotels.com, Hotwire, Orbitz LLC, Priceline.com Inc. and Travelocity.com LP to collectively pay $54 million in unpaid taxes, penalties and interest and seeks another...
