Marine Base 'Godfather' Whacked With Fed. Bribery Charge

Law360, New York (April 2, 2013, 3:55 PM EDT) -- A U.S. Department of Defense official who dubbed himself the "Godfather" of Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in San Diego was indicted on bribery charges Friday after allegedly demanding $40,000 in cash to help a contractor win $4 million in flooring work.

Natividad Lara Cervantes, 64, was arrested on federal bribery charges after accepting $10,000 of the bribe from a cooperating witness at a San Diego cigar lounge, according to his federal criminal complaint.
