Publishers 'Coordinated' E-Book Deals, Amazon Exec Says

Law360, New York (June 6, 2013, 2:58 PM EDT) -- An Amazon.com Inc. executive testified Thursday in New York that U.S. publishers undertook a "coordinated effort" to have the retailer cede control over e-book pricing immediately following the launch of the iPad in 2010, as the first week of the government's antitrust trial against Apple Inc. concluded.

Amazon's Russell Grandinetti said the five publishers that signed e-book distribution deals with Apple in support of the iPad — Simon & Schuster Inc., Penguin Group USA, HarperCollins Publishers LLC, Hachette Book Group Inc. and Macmillan Publishers Ltd. —...
