Bausch & Lomb ReNu Tests Were Flawed: Study

Law360, New York (January 29, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- A Bausch & Lomb contact lens solution that caused a massive outbreak of fungal infections in 2006 may not have been adequately tested to ensure that it was resistant to microbial contamination, a study has found.

The study, conducted by researchers at the Center for Medical Mycology at University Hospitals Case Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio, found that the strain of fungus used by Bausch & Lomb to test the solution, ReNu with MoistureLoc, was rare and outdated, NewsInferno reported Monday.
