Tech Giants Blast Gov't Response To Gag Order Challenge

Law360, New York (November 13, 2013, 10:46 PM EST) -- Google Inc., Facebook Inc. and three others pushed the U.S. Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court to force the government to be more forthcoming on its reasons for blocking them from disclosing government requests for user data, saying Tuesday the secrecy is neither justified nor constitutional.

In their motion, the companies blasted the U.S. Department of Justice for its Sept. 30 filing of a “heavily redacted” response to their requests for permission to publicly disclose data about the number of compulsory information requests they receive from the government,...
