NYC Planning Board OKs $53M Coney Island Amphitheater

Law360, New York (December 6, 2013, 3:03 PM EST) -- The New York City Department of City Planning unanimously approved a plan to build a $53 million concert amphitheater on the same lot as Coney Island's iconic-yet-abandoned Child's Restaurant, a commission spokesman said Friday.

The decision is a major victory for outgoing Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, who wanted a big concert space in Coney Island for years but had been thwarted by reluctant residents.
