Facing Pinterest Suit, Travel Site Says 'Pin' Is Generic

Law360, New York (January 8, 2014, 1:45 PM EST) -- Travel planning startup Pintrips Inc. hit back hard Monday on trademark infringement claims from Pinterest Inc., calling the social media giant a “trademark bully” and arguing that “pin” was merely a generic, unprotectable verb.

The filing came three months after Pinterest — a fast-growing network of virtual image pinboards — lodged a federal lawsuit claiming Pintrips' functions that let users bookmark travel plans through a "Pin" button violated the trademark rights earned through its own, more popular “pinning” system.
