US Sailors Seek $1B From Tepco For Radiation Exposure

Law360, New York (February 10, 2014, 4:05 PM EST) -- A group of U.S. Navy rescue personnel lodged a new $1 billion putative class action in California federal court Thursday against Tokyo Electric Power Co. Inc., claiming the utility failed to disclose that they would be exposed to nuclear radiation during a humanitarian mission aiding tsunami victims.

Tepco knew the Navy personnel were in danger of suffering from toxic exposure after an earthquake and tsunami devastated the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station in March 2011, leaving them at risk of cancer and other health problems, according to the suit.
