Viacom Loses Bid To Get Google Source Code

Law360, New York (July 3, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A federal judge has refused to force Google Inc. and its YouTube LLC unit to hand over the critical computer source code that controls Google's popular search tools in copyright infringement suits brought by Viacom Inc. and a football association.

On Tuesday, Judge Louis L. Stanton of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York granted Google’s bid for a protective order blocking the plaintiffs from receiving the code responsible for YouTube’s search function and Google’s Internet search tool.
