Verizon Agrees To Divestitures In $5.9B Alltel Merger

Law360, New York (July 23, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Verizon Wireless has offered to divest airwaves in 85 markets in a bid to smooth over antitrust regulators' competition concerns related to the communications company's proposed $5.9 billion merger with Alltel Corp.

The company said in a letter Tuesday to the U.S. Federal Communications Commission that following initial discussions with the U.S. Department of Justice, Verizon Wireless has committed to divesting overlapping properties comprising the entire states of North Dakota and South Dakota, as well as overlapping properties comprising partial areas within 16 additional states....
