NY Times Sues Treasury Dept. Over FISA-Related Doc

Law360, Washington (July 22, 2015, 6:29 PM EDT) -- The New York Times Co. asked a New York federal court on Wednesday to compel the U.S. Department of the Treasury to release information related to an Office of Foreign Assets Control policy, saying the government had no right to withhold it.

Treasury wrongly denied Times reporter Charlie Savage’s Freedom of Information Act request seeking documents relating to whether and when OFAC notifies targets of investigations under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of information investigators learned through warrantless surveillance, the Times said.
