Whirlpool Defective Washer Suit Stayed

Law360, New York (October 8, 2008, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A judge has stayed one of several lawsuits claiming that Whirlpool Duet Sport washing machines have a common defect that causes a persistent, mildew-like odor until it is determined whether the cases will be consolidated into a multidistrict litigation.

On Monday, Judge James Gwin of U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio granted Whirlpool Corp.'s motion to stay the case while the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation considers the company's request to combine the case with five others.
