9th Circ. Blocks Uber's Class Cert. Appeal In Drivers' Tips Row

Law360, Los Angeles (November 17, 2015, 11:03 PM EST) -- The Ninth Circuit on Tuesday refused to immediately review a lower court's decision to certify a class of Uber Technologies Inc. drivers in California claiming in a closely watched case that they were mislabeled as independent contractors and cheated out of tips.

In a brief order that wasn't accompanied by an opinion, the appeals judges decided not to disturb U.S. District Judge Edward M. Chen's decision to grant class certification in the dispute, believed to be the leading case dealing with the classification of “sharing economy”...
