State Attorneys General Reject Revised Plavix Deal

Law360, New York (July 31, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- For the second time, Bristol-Myers Squibb and Sanofi-Aventis have failed to get antitrust clearance for the Plavix litigation settlement from state attorneys general.

That deal could have allowed Bristol-Myers to stave off generic competition from Apotex Corp. for the blood thinner Plavix, which had global sales of $5.9 billion last year.

On Monday, Sanofi-Aventis disclosed in its U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filings that it has received grand jury subpoenas in connection with the Plavix settlement, which the Department of Justice’s criminal division is currently investigating....
