Late in the day his request was denied.
Convicted of wire fraud after a 2015 trial before U.S. District Judge Jed S. Rakoff and sentenced to six months in prison, Newkirk went before Judges Dennis Jacobs, Guido Calabresi and Reena Raggi on Tuesday in a bid to remain free pending the outcome of what his counsel called a meritorious appeal....
