Ad Agency Deal With Unpaid Interns Gets Early Approval

Law360, New York (July 28, 2016, 4:28 PM EDT) -- A New York state court gave initial approval Wednesday to a settlement that calls for Arnold Worldwide LLC to compensate a group of unpaid interns $500 apiece to resolve a proposed class action lawsuit, according to court documents.

The settlement, which was given preliminary approval by Supreme Court Judge Joan M. Kenney, would end a suit brought by former intern Mollie Ableman, who said she received no pay or class credit for her work at Arnold Worldwide.

Under the agreement, the advertising agency — best known for creating the Progressive Insurance spokeswoman "Flo" — would pay $500 to each unpaid intern...
