Countrywide, First American, KB Escape Kickback Suit

Law360, Washington (August 30, 2011, 1:12 PM EDT) -- A California federal judge on Monday dismissed a putative class action against Countrywide Financial Corp., First American Title Insurance Co. and homebuilder KB Home that alleged KB received kickbacks for referrals to the other two, as part of an unspecified settlement.

The plaintiffs first filed suit in 2008 seeking to stop and redress KB Home’s alleged practice of collecting kickbacks for the referral of California customers to real estate settlement service providers in violation of the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act.
