Emulex, Broadcom Strike $58M Patent Licensing Deal

Law360, New York (July 5, 2012, 9:48 PM EDT) -- Semiconductor and wireless communications firm Broadcom Corp. on Thursday agreed to a partial settlement with rival Emulex Corp. in their dispute over patents for high-speed broadband technology, with Emulex agreeing to pay $58 million in release and license fees for use of three Broadcom patents.

In a joint stipulation filed in California federal court, Broadcom agreed to drop some of its claims against Emulex, including certain claims relating to U.S. Patent Numbers 7,471,691 and 7,450,500, which will be dismissed with prejudice. Emulex’s license to Broadcom’s ‘691...
