Ex-USA Volleyball Coach Slams Cert. Bid In Cover-Up Suit

Law360 (October 29, 2018, 7:45 PM EDT) -- Banned USA Volleyball coach Rick Butler has urged an Illinois federal judge to reject a bid for class certification by a woman who claims the sports club employing Butler covered up his previous sexual assault allegations, saying the proposed class would be unmanageable.

In a memorandum filed with the Northern District of Illinois on Friday, Butler argued that Laura Mullen's proposed class — which includes anyone who paid money to GLV Inc., which runs Sports Performance Volleyball Club, for youth volleyball instruction between February 2013 and January 2018 — includes people who never interacted with Butler.
