Zimmer Undoes Jury's 'Excessive' $9.2M Hip Implant Verdict

Law360, New York (October 28, 2015, 7:23 PM EDT) -- A California judge made an offer on Tuesday to a man claiming he suffers chronic pain due to a defective Zimmer Inc. hip implant: accept a drastic, 90 percent reduction to a jury’s $9.2 million verdict or go through a new trial.

Superior Court Judge Amy D. Hogue said the verdict reached in July was “hasty and excessive,” significantly exceeding Gary Kline’s requested $6.5 million in damages, and said that Kline’s attorneys not only falsely stated that Zimmer paid its witnesses but improperly alluded to the company’s considerable assets.
