Mercedes 'Defeat Device' Suit Prompts Questions From EPA

Law360, New York (February 29, 2016, 6:21 PM EST) -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has asked Daimler to explain emissions levels in certain Mercedes-Benz diesel vehicles after a proposed class action alleged they use Volkswagen-style “defeat devices” to ace emissions inspections, a Daimler representative confirmed Monday.

The company said it thinks the suit is unfounded and intends to defend itself, but noted that it has worked “closely and constructively” with government agencies both in Europe and the U.S. and plans to continue doing so for the diesel emissions tests.
