Law360 (September 14, 2020, 4:21 PM EDT) -- New York state has long been a leader in addressing the global threat of climate change. The state is now mobilizing to implement the economywide greenhouse gas emission reductions required by the New York Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act, or CLCPA.

This landmark statute, which went into effect on Jan. 1, requires extraordinary reductions in statewide GHG emissions. If its requirements are met, statewide GHG emissions in New York as of 2030 will be 40% lower than they were in 1990, and by 2050, emissions will be 85% lower than baseline 1990 emissions.
