Yahoo's IP Suit Against Facebook Could Backfire, Attys Say

By Ryan Davis (March 14, 2012, 10:39 PM EDT) -- Yahoo Inc.'s patent suit against Facebook Inc. represents a possible new revenue source for the embattled search company, but the strength of its patents is unclear and Yahoo risks a potential blow to its reputation for going after a fellow tech giant, attorneys say.

The suit, filed Monday in California federal court, accuses Facebook of infringing 10 patents related to advertising, privacy and social networking, and pointedly claims that the success of the leading social networking company is primarily based on its use of Yahoo's patented technology.
